Little Wild Things — Collection No. 3
The third painting in my Little Wild Things collection, Uncommon Collective is a gathering of small, easily overlooked botanical forms, brought together in three glass vases against an opaque white window.
Real plant forms have been printed into the underlying layers of the painting, then worked over with acrylic, pencil and charcoal. The small yellow blooms, or perhaps pods, emerge from a world of blue tones with even the glass vases carrying the cool blues of the surrounding scene.
These aren't quite the flowers we might stop to admire. They are smaller, stranger things: the sort of plants that might grow unnoticed at the edge of a path, mistaken for weeds or passed by without a second glance.
Running through the painting is the line of prose:
“I wasn't looking for flowers.”
Perhaps that's the point. Sometimes the most interesting things are the ones we weren't searching for like the unexpected little discoveries that ask us to look twice.
Uncommon Collective is the third of eight one-of-a-kind original paintings in my Little Wild Things collection, exploring the beauty, character and quiet oddities of the natural world.
