Little Wild Things — Collection No. 1
The first painting in my Little Wild Things collection, Celestial Mirror is a small original built from layers of nature, colour and mark-making.
Real plants have been printed into the underlying layers of the painting, creating a sense of the wild garden beneath the surface. Acrylic, pencil and charcoal are then worked over and through these printed forms, allowing fragments of the original botanical impressions to remain visible.
At the centre, a sunflower is painted in acrylic, reaching towards the light. I see the flower as a kind of celestial mirror, looking up towards the sun, as though reflecting something of heaven back to earth.
The words “Face to face — heavens & Earth” have been added to the painting as a quiet line of prose, becoming part of the work rather than simply a description of it.
Celestial Mirror is the first of eight one-of-a-kind original paintings in my Little Wild Things collection — each exploring the meeting point between the natural world, imagination and something a little more mysterious.
