A Painting of Quiet Renewal There is something about the hush of an early winter morning that holds a quiet kind of magic. That fleeting moment when night loosens its grip and the first light of day stirs across the fields.

Awakening Light is my attempt to capture that feeling—the slow unraveling of thought, the grounding presence of the earth, and the gentle reassurance of a new day.

Painted in abstract watercolour, the piece is layered in soft greys and muted golds, mirroring the cool stillness of the landscape before the warmth of the sun breathes life into it. The misty fields dissolve into the horizon, where the first golden glow rises, delicate yet certain. The looseness of the brushwork allows the light to emerge organically, shifting and blending as if caught in motion—just as it does in those quiet morning moments.

This painting is as much about feeling as it is about form. It speaks to that space between dreaming and waking, where thoughts are still tangled in the echoes of the night. The soft greys hold the weight of reflection, while the golds bring a sense of release—a reminder that, no matter what lingers in the mind, the world continues to turn, the light always returns.

For me, Awakening Light is a moment of pause. A deep breath before the day begins. A reminder that each morning brings with it a chance to start anew.
